It is amazing to come and visit Paris, for the architecture and culture …..but to truly experience the City of Light like a local, walk through one of its food markets. There are few experiences more French than food shopping in Paris food markets. Markets offer a wide choice of fresh and organic produce, with fruit and vegetables, meat, bread, cheese, as well as more specialty items like smoked fish, wine, oils or soaps, selling directly to customers. To see this incredible market tradition in its full glory, you have to visit on a Saturday morning.
Say “Bonjour” and don’t be shy to ask for samples, be sure to go early as it can be very crowded and you won’t be able to see all stands and all products. Often the price can be a bit higher than your local store, but this depends on the location of the market. And not to forget everything is really fresh and from local farmers.
I like visiting the close market every Saturday or Sunday so I can take everything that I need for the upcoming week. I prefer to shop at the market not only because is fresh, local and everything is seasonal, but because also this means less packaging. I make sure to bring my big bags and the rest they put in a recycled paper bags.
There are so many markets around Paris and the suburbs, all are open on a specific day of the week normally from the morning to early afternoon. Here are some suggestions :
Saxe-Breteuil Market

Opening Hours: 7am to 2:30pm every Thursday and Saturday morning.
Cler Market Street

Transport: Metro École Militaire (line 8)
Opening Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, but closed Mondays & Sunday afternoons
Market Bastille
Location: 8 Boulevard Richard Lenoir, 11th Arrondissement
Transport: Metro Bastille
Opening Hours: Thursday, 7 am to 2.30 pm (also open on Sundays)
Grenelle Market
Location: Rue de Grenelle, 15th Arrondissement
Transport: Metro Motte-Picquet Grenelle (line 6, 8, and 10), and Dupleix (line 6)
Opening Hours: 7am to 2:30pm every Wednesday and Sunday

I think so too and also is less packaging which I love, I am trying to be more earth friendly and also this supports the local farmers 😉
